Led by first-place and second-place performances from senior Alex McCormack, the Rolla High School boys' track team had five placers in the 41st annual Springfield Hillcrest Boys' Invitational Friday at JFK Stadium.
On Thursday the Lady Bulldogs participated in the annual Girls' Night Out Invitational at JFK Stadium, coming away with two top-8 placements.
McCormack, a returning all-stater in the 300-meter hurdles, captured the event on Friday with a time of :39.7 (:40.21 electronic time). McCormack also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles at :14.9 (:15.20 electronic time).
Junior Aaron Froehlich finished seventh in both the long jump at 20-5 3/4 and the triple jump at 42-1 while junior Hunter Short was eighth in the 800-meter run at 2:05.7.
There were 29 teams in the event. Highlighting the meet were a pair of first places by Springfield Glendale junior Spencer Haik in the 1,600-meter run with a meet-record time of 4:14.91 and the 800 at 1:57.11 and Lebanon senior Aren Martin in the 200-meter dash at :22.47 and the 400-meter dash at :50.11. Martin is a transfer from Waynesville High School.
Also, Lebanon senior Jeff Plake was third in the 400 at :50.84. Plake has signed to compete in both track and football at Missouri S&T.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by a fourth-place finish from its throwers 4x100 meter relay team of Amanda Steineman, Aarika Froehlich, Madison Bartle and Tara Mace at 1:04.7.
Also for the RHS girls Sophia Holmes was fifth in the long jump at 15-10.
There were 30 teams in the event.
"As usual they were both high-quality meets and we ran well in lots of things," said RHS head coach Don Knapp. "But with so many teams it is typical to have a good performance and not make the top eight overall."
Rolla's boys and girls are scheduled to compete in the Marshfield Invitational today, starting at 4 p.m. On Tuesday RHS is slated to compete in the Salem JV Relays, starting at 11 a.m. And on Saturday Rolla is to participate in the Capital City Relays in Jefferson City, starting at 11 a.m.
