Lucien Milton Bolon, Jr., 78, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away peacefully on April 1, 2013.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit, 1625 NW O’Brien Road followed by a memorial service at noon.

Lucien “Lu” was born in St. Joseph, MO on July 7, 1934 to Lucien, Sr. and Augusta Marie Bolon.  After graduating from Rolla High School he briefly played minor league baseball for a team affiliated with the New York Yankees.  He then attended the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla and graduated in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, as well as receiving a professional degree in Civil Engineering from UMR in 1998.

While in college, Lu was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Canterbury Club, M-Club, Student Council, and the varsity basketball team.  Lu also served a 2 year reserve term with the US Army Corps of Engineers as a 2nd Lieutenant.

Lu worked briefly with the Missouri State Highway Department before spending 28 years with the Federal Highway Administration and achieved the position of Director of Construction and Maintenance.

Lu was a member of several professional engineering societies, the Miner Alumni Association, Chi Epsilon, and the MSM- Order of the Golden Shillelagh as well as President of the Academy of Civil Engineers and the KC Alumni Section.

He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife Sammy, of nearly 50 years.  He is survived by 2 sons, Brad (Janine) of Columbus, Ohio and Greg (Carolyn) of Kansas City, MO, a brother Charlie (Rosie) and 6 grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the KC Hospice and friends for their comfort and compassion during Lu’s final weeks.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lucien M. Bolon, Jr. endowed scholarship in Rolla, MO, 1200 N.
