Dave Nichols, director of the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has issued a new challenge to field employees: fix those potholes, and fix them fast.
The department's Missouri Pothole Patrol effort, which began in mid-March, runs through April 14.
The Pothole Patrol focuses on patching potholes quickly and keeping highways smooth and safe for motorists.
"MoDOT makes every effort to surpass expectations in everything we do," said Nichols. "While maintenance crews have done a great job so far, I have challenged them to speed up their response time to make sure the pothole repair is done swiftly and efficiently."
Once a pothole has been reported, Nichols has asked crews to repair it by the close of business on the following day, including Saturdays and Sundays.
"MoDOT has dedicated staff and resources to repair minor road damage quickly," said State Maintenance Engineer Elizabeth Wright. "When we are making repairs, we aren't able to drive every road every day so we need the public's help to spot those potholes and let us know where they are."
