  • Powered by a medalist performance from senior Michael Steelman, the Rolla High School boys' golf team finished second in the 12-team large-school division of the Missouri State University Tournament Thursday at the Payne Stewart Golf Course.
As a team the Bulldog golfers shot 308, just one stroke behind Class 4 champion Springfield Kickapoo. Rockhurst was a distant third with 316.
Rolla won the team title in 2012.
Steelman was the Class 4 and overall meet medalist, firing one-over-par 71.
Also for the Bulldogs Mark Martin was third place overall with 74 while Jake Drewniak shot 77, Justin Isaacson 86 and Nate Neagles 87.
"As the weather has warmed up so have the Bulldogs," said RHS coach Zack Nixon. "Michael led the way for us and the other 24 teams. And he had a lot of help.
"We fell one stroke short of having a chance to defend our title. Kickapoo in Class 4 and West Plains in Class 3 shot 307. However, we will have a chance to avenge our loss when we see both at the Ozark Conference tournament that we are hosting."
The RHS golfers are scheduled to host Waynesville at Oak Meadow Country Club on Monday, starting at 4 p.m.
