  • In recognition of April being National County Government Month, the Phelps County Commission and county officeholders will be going "on the road" for the next five Tuesday evenings in April.
The county commission normally meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings, but starting next week, the commission will hold some of its meetings in April and one in early May in the evenings as an outreach effort.
Additionally, the meetings will be held in a different location in the county each week to encourage attendance by residents who may not normally be able to attend commission meetings at the county courthouse in Rolla.
All area residents are invited and encouraged to attend these evening meetings to express concerns or to offer comments to county officeholders.
City officials in the communities where the commission will hold its meetings have been invited to attend.
With the exception of April 9, when the commissioners will still meet briefly that morning to open bids, the commission will not hold morning meetings the same day that a night meeting is scheduled.
For more information, contact County Clerk Carol Bennett at 573-458-6101.
The National Association of Counties has declared the month of April as National County Government Month. The theme of the 2013 month is "Smart Justice."
At the commission's April 2 meeting, the commissioners passed a proclamation recognizing National County Government Month in Phelps County and encourages all county officials, employees, schools and residents to participate in county government celebration activities.
