In possible future playoff matchup, Lady Bulldogs stop Republic.
In what could be a future playoff matchup, the Rolla High School girls' soccer team got the best of Republic on Monday, posting a 3-1 non-conference victory on Kiwanis Field at the Bray Sports Complex.
The game had been scheduled for March 19 but was backed up due to the weather.
Rolla, which improved to 5-1 Monday, scored two minutes into the contest on a goal by freshman Emma Laney, assisted by junior Nicole Howard.
Howard later scored a goal in the 28th minute, assisted by senior Bailey Dent. It was 2-0 at intermission.
Junior Sara Marcotte got Republic on the scoreboard with 12 minutes remaining. However, Dent sealed the RHS victory with a goal with just seven minutes left off a Howard pass.
Freshman keeper Katie Hudson was in goal for RHS.
"I feel like we played a good game considering the girls had a full week off," said RHS head coach Mike Howard. "Republic has a strong team and a great player in Sara Marcotte and I feel like they can easily be the team that advances to the quarterfinals from that side of the state."
Republic won the junior varsity game 2-0, dropping the Rolla jayvee squad to 0-2.
The Lady Bulldogs hosted Springfield Parkview last night and are scheduled to host Springfield Kickapoo at 5 p.m. Thursday in a Ozark Conference showdown, starting at 5 p.m. on Kiwanis Field.
