  • Phelps County Commissioners, along with several other county elected officials, signed pledges Thursday in support of home ownership at the request of a local realtor.
By doing so, Phelps County elected officials are the first in the state to sign these pledges, according to Caroleen Ferrell, realtor with Realty Executives, who attended Thursday’s commission meeting.
Ferrell said she attended as a realtor concerned about the future of home ownership.
“We’re turning into a country of renters,” she said.
Ferrell attended a rally in Washington, D.C., to show her support for government from the federal to the local levels that support the right to home ownership.
Ferrell informed county officials of a state rally called Missourians for the American Dream to be held Thursday, April 25, at 5 p.m. at Kiener Plaza in downtown St. Louis.
Missouri realtors from across the state, along with elected officials, media and the public are expected to attend.
There will be a bus that area people can travel on from Rolla to St. Louis for the rally.
The bus will leave from the K-mart parking lot on Highway 63 South in Rolla at 2:30 p.m. and the bus will leave from St. Louis back to Rolla at 7:15 p.m.
The bus ride costs $15 and payment can be made to RPAC Missouri. Each person riding the bus will have a chance to win an iPad courtesy of the Missouri Association of Realtors.
To reserve a spot on the bus, people may call Shelley Klossner at 573-341-9494.
