First American killed in WWI

The first American to die in World War I was killed two years before the US declared war on Germany. On March 28, 1915, Leon Thresher, a mining engineer, was aboard the RMS Falaba enroute to Africa when it was sunk by a German submarine. Over one hundred persons died including Thresher.
