  • Garry L. Duhadway Sr., who was a former alderman on the Doolittle Board of Aldermen, is challenging incumbent Sherry Piece for the Doolittle alderman seat in Ward 3 in Tuesday’s municipal election.

Both candidates were given questionnaires by The Rolla Daily News about why they are running, but only Duhadway responded as of press time. His answers are below:

    1. Briefly describe your background, including education, work experience, organizations you are or have been involved in, previous public service experience, family or other related information.

Duhadway: “I have some high school education from Dixon.

I went into the Marine Corps in 1961 and retired after three tours of Vietnam. I worked for the City of Rolla sanitation department and am retired from there. Now I drive a school bus for Newburg and have been doing so for six years. I have lived out in this area for probably 21 years but in the actual city limits for 11 years. I was once an alderman in Doolittle. I have been a volunteer for about four or five years with the park in Newburg. My wife, Janice, and I have been married for about 22 years.”

    2. Why are you running for this office?

Duhadway: “Up until the last four or five years, I never really had a chance to get involved. Since I’ve been out here, I have met a lot of people in this area and a lot are older like me. I just enjoy people and helping out.
I would like to be involved with my community if I could.”

    3. What experiences or qualities do you possess that qualify you for this position?

Duhadway: “I am retired from the military, so I have leadership capabilities that I can rely upon. I have good people skills.”

    4. How do you differ from your opponent?

Duhadway: “I don’t really know her (Pierce) that well, so I can’t voice an opinion one way or the other.”

    5. What do you think are the most important issues facing the city of Doolittle?

Duhadway: “Probably the sewer system, which has been a point of contention. We have some people who haven’t paid their sewer bill and we’re not doing anything about getting that back. Also the roads, like Eisenhower Street.”

    6. What, if any, improvements or changes do you think could be made to the city of Doolittle?

Page 2 of 2 - Duhadway: “There are road and sewer issues. Also we should attract more businesses.”
