Ryan Ward came in and made an immediate impact for the Newburg High School boys’ basketball team.
He was rewarded today with a berth on the Missouri Central Class 2 All-District Team.
Ward, a 6-0 freshman guard, was named to the Class 2 All-District Second-Team, it was announced today.
The all-district teams were selected by the Missouri Sportswriters/Sportscasters Association.
Ward, son of Newburg first-year head coach Doug Ward, helped turned the Wolves into a winning club in 2012-13, posting a 15-13 record.
He averaged 17.3 points per game, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals.
Several other Frisco League boys’ and girls’ players were named to the all-district squad, including:
Iberia’s Darrien Dickey, Isaac Minnick, Dexter Frisbie and Richland’s Dakota Hall in Class 2 boys; Crocker’s Lindsay Medlen and Briana Peterson, Laquey’s Maura Skidmore, Iberia’s Taylor Shreve, Plato’s Kaylea Kimrey and Stoutland’s Alexa Willard in Class 2 girls; Dixon’s Collin Holzer, Solomon Weider and Hayden Yoakum and Licking’s Lane Duncan in Class 3 boys, and Dixon’s Hunter Yoakum and Mattie Whittaker and Licking’s Megan Smith and Bailee Osborne in Class 3 girls.
