Jen Denbo has decided to take her very personal battle with breast cancer and go public with it.
She hopes that her story will help others going through the same process, and inspire other people to do their proper screenings.
Jen said she was apprehensive about starting the blog and sharing with people because she was afraid she was going to be judged. She was willing to take that risk if it helped save someone else’s life.
She thought to herself “I should keep a journal, but who even writes in journals anymore?”
So her sister-in-law set up a Wordpress blog for her, and the rest is history.
Jen says the tone of the blog has changed over the weeks.
“The beginning ones are very different because no one was reading it,” said Jen. “It was more sad. I was in a sad place.”
Her husband, John Marc Denbo, encouraged her to be more positive in her blog posts, so now she tries to include at least one positive item each day.
In addition to thoughts on her experience so far, the blog contains links for resources she has found helpful on her journey and a spot where people can donate to help defray the cost of her medical expenses.
The blog has gotten over 11,000 hits since Jen started toward the end of January. It can be found in the Blogs section of the Rolla Daily News website, or at www.takingitfromthetop.com
