The CTA (Community Teachers Association) at the Newburg R-II School District is recognizing a faculty/staff member every month who goes out of his or her way to make a difference.
The CTA finalizes the choice each month and the superintendent and school board then must approve the faculty/staff member.
January winner: Donna Wiese, 58, lunch clerk.
How did you feel about receiving the honor? “I am very happy and consider it a great honor to be chosen by my peers to be the employee of the month.”
How long have you worked at Newburg schools? “I have been employed at Newburg R-II Schools for 38 years. For the first 10 years, I worked in the special education department.”
Education: “I have a high school diploma from Newburg R-II. I also have 38 hours of college hours from Drury University.”
What inspired you to go into your position? “While in high school, I volunteered with the Head Start program during the summer and I absolutely loved being able to work with children. I started my employment at Newburg R-II in 1974. Wilma Huskey was my mentor. She was a wonderful lady with such a caring and positive spirit. She trained me well and inspired me to become who I am today.”
What is your favorite part of your job?
“Working with the children is, by far, my favorite part of the job. I have loved seeing students grow from kindergarten through high school and in some cases even getting to see second generations.”
What is something about your job that people may not know? “Paperwork! Paperwork! Paperwork!”
What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of your job? “I love spending time with my two grandchildren, Cooper and Shelby. I also enjoy spending time going to church.”
Family: “I have one son, Jeremy, one daughter-in-law, Jennifer, and two grandchildren, Cooper and Shelby.
