  • Who has the best chili in Rolla? Saturday we’ll find out.

The Rolla Police Department is sponsoring the first annual Taste of Rolla Chili Cookoff Saturday at the Eugene E. Northern Community Hall from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Four dollars will get you a bowl of chili and all the samples you care to eat. If you would like a second bowl of chili, it will be an additional $4, but each person can only vote for their favorite once.

“We have been able to get donations for all the supplies,” said Sergeant Vince Giacolone, VIPS Director/Community Police Officer. “Every penny of it is going to the Missouri Special Olympics.”

In addition to chili, there will be other food for sale as well. Hotdogs $1, chili dogs $1.50, water and soda $1 and ice cream cups for $.50.

“We think it is going to be great,” said Giacolone. “It is something somewhat unique to the city of Rolla. You get to sample chilis from most of the local restaurants.
If you are a fan of chili you certainly want to come.”

Giacolone said there all types of chilis available to try — everything from white chili to vegetarian. He couldn’t speak in specific because it is going to be a surprise to see what kind of chili all the restaurant bring. Even he won’t know for sure until the event Saturday.

“My favorite chili is the one my wife makes,” said Giacolone. “Maybe we’ll find one we like more.”
