  • Whether you want to learn how to resurface your countertops, get ideas for home decor or find out about the latest clean air techniques offered by vacuums, the 25th annual Rolla Area Home and Business Expo will have what you are looking for.
The free event, sponsored by The Rolla Daily News, is scheduled for this Friday from 3-8 p.m. and this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building, located at 10th Street and U.S. Highway 63 on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus in Rolla.
"Enjoy the upcoming nice weather by getting out and coming to the home show," said Marcia Burns, advertising manager with The Rolla Daily News.
About 40 vendors are expected to be represented at the two-day event. "A lot of the vendors are local or who serve this area," Burns said, but noted that some companies from Jefferson City will attend.
According to Burns, last year's event drew a crowd of about 500 people and she expects about the same number this year.
Attendees can learn about siding and windows, banking, gutter protection, insurance, concrete, heating and cooling, real estate, waterproofing, home decor, electrical safety, jewelry, beauty products, chiropractic services, landscaping and gardening, restoration, orthopedics, lawn mowers, pool and spa, roofing, health care, cabinetry, construction, portable buildings and more.
"There will be some neat products and some unusual products that you would not otherwise have the opportunity to see all in one area," Burns said. "You can learn how to do your own home improvement or meet professionals who can help you do things better."
Some of the vendors will offer their products for sale. In addition, most vendors will have giveaways and prizes or raffles.
Additionally, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Phelps County officials will have booths.
New this year will be pet adoptions available by the Phelps County Animal Welfare League Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Additionally, a vendor will have remote control helicopters and boats.
Four seminars are scheduled for Saturday throughout the day, starting at 10:30 a.m. when MaryAnn Koen will teach people how to resurface their countertops.
At 11 a.m., Tina Birdsong will lead a seminar on making your home beautiful with a touch of "Celebrating Home."
At 11:30 a.m., Tony Ess will talk about the latest clean air techniques in Rainbow Vacuum Systems.
Then at 1 p.m., Beth Heth will lead a seminar on beauty, color and care.
At The Rolla Daily News booth, people can sign up for a subscription special.
Additionally, people can enter to win a trip valued at $300 to anywhere of their choice.
"We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the home show," Burns said.
