The CTA (Community Teachers Association) at the Newburg R-II School District is recognizing a faculty/staff member every month who goes out of his or her way to make a difference.
The CTA finalizes the choice each month and the superintendent and school board then must approve the faculty/staff member.
February winner: Jeanine DeLong, 47, second-grade teacher.
How did you feel about receiving the honor? “I am very honored to have been chosen to receive this recognition. I work with many talented people who could and should be recognized for their hard work and dedication. We are a team at Newburg Schools. No one person does it by themselves.”
How long have you worked at Newburg schools? “I have been teaching second grade for 22 years at Newburg. I taught four years at Dent-Phelps (School District) prior to coming to Newburg.”
Education: “I have a B.S. in education from Missouri State University. I hold certificates in elementary education as well as one in early childhood education.”
What inspired you to go into your position? “I grew up in a family of teachers. My parents, grandparents and many aunts and uncles were teachers. I saw them enjoying what they were doing. This, along with my love of working with children, inspired me to choose teaching as a career.”
What is your favorite part of your job? “My favorite part of my job is being able to see children grow and learn. There is no better feeling than to see a struggling child finally grasp a concept. You never have to worry about becoming bored. There are never two days that are alike.”
What is something about your job people may not know? “Not everyone can be a teacher. Anyone can get a degree, but it takes a special person to be a good teacher.”
What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of your job? “I enjoy being with my family. I like to cook and be a homemaker. I also enjoy gardening and my pets.”
Family: “I have been married to my husband, Rich DeLong, for 25 years in June. We have two children, Kaitlin (DeLong) Mudd, 22, and Drew DeLong, 19. My biggest passion in life is my family.”
