  • Friday, Senior Circuit Judge John Wiggins sentenced Darryl E. Young to serve 30 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for robbery in the 1st degree.

Young pled guilty Dec. 6, 2012 to robbing the St. James Country Mart in Nov. 2007.

According to a press release issued by Phelps County Prosecuting Attourney John D. Beger, in 2007, Young entered the St. James Country Mart and took the manager at gun point to the safe.

He then stole approximately $15,000 before fleeing on foot. Several days later Young was apprehended in Carrollton after committing a similar robbery at a Pamida store.

Young pled guilty to the Carroll County robbery and received 18 years in prison, a term he is currently serving.

The case was investigated by St. James Police Department. Tim McDonald and Chris Pigg.
The case was prosecuted by Phelps County Assistant Prosecutor Brendon Fox.

“Darryl Young was a danger to the citizens of the State of Missouri and I am happy that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars," said Beger in a release.
Beger noted that Young's sentence in Phelps County was ordered to be consecutive to the sentence in Carroll County.

"I applaud the St. James Police Department with conducting a top notch investigation,” said Beger.
“Also, after I assigned the case to Mr. Fox, he very quickly got the case ready for trial under a very strict time deadline and that ultimately resulted in the guilty plea."
