  • Filmore Bouldes, a senior in business management at Missouri University of Science and Technology, stood outside the Curtis Laws Wilson Library on the university campus Thursday with several other students from various campus groups to raise awareness about slavery around the world.

Behind Bouldes in a cage, which is about the same size many slaves are forced to live in, was Brooklyn Collins, a freshman in electrical engineering. The students had been outside raising awareness since 9 a.m. Thursday.

An event will be held Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the St. Pat's Ballroom in the Havener Center on the S&T campus. A documentary will be shown and a victim of human trafficking will speak. The public is invited.

Friday, there will be a fish fry at the Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike) fraternity house at Highway 63 and Ninth Street from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Tickets are $5 and all proceeds will go to the International Justice Mission (IJM), a human rights organization that rescues victims of slavery. Photo by Paul Hackbarth
