Velma Leah Hutcheson, 93, of St. James, Missouri passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center. At the time of her death, she was living at Parkside Manor in Rolla, MO. Velma Leah was born November 24, 1919 in Gardner Ford, Texas County, Missouri to the late Thomas and Dona (Coats) Potts.
Velma Leah was raised in Texas County. She was united in marriage to Guy Floyd Hutcheson on July 3, 1940. To this union 3 children were born. In 1954, Guy and Velma Leah moved to St. James where they owned and operated Hutcheson Ford Sales. Velma Leah worked as a secretary in St. James, at Boys Town of Missouri and at the First Baptist Church, from which she retired.
Family and church were most important to Velma Leah. She was a proud, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Velma Leah was an involved member and leader at First Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and served on many committees over the past 55 years. She enjoyed sports, golf and bridge; playing bridge past her 92nd birthday.
Velma Leah is preceded in death by her husband Guy, her parents, 3 sisters, and an infant brother. She is survived by her children, daughter Sherry Komisarek and husband George, of Springboro, OH; daughter Susan Tucker and husband Michael “Butch”, of St. James, MO; and son Hal and wife Karen (McVey) Hutcheson, of Liberty, MO; sister Betty Sue Crow of Licking, MO and a brother, Harry Keith Potts and wife Peggy of North Lima, OH. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Komisarek, Michael and Christopher Tucker, and Heather (Hutcheson) Herr and Kyle Hutcheson. She was ‘Grandma Great’ to 11 greatgrandchildren, all of whom she adored.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, February 25, at the James & Gahr Funeral Home in St. James, MO, from 5 pm – 7 pm. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 26, at 11 am, at the First Baptist Church in St. James, MO with Pastor Jerry Baumann officiating. Interment will be at the St. James Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Komisarek, Michael and Christopher Tucker, Heather (Hutcheson) Herr and Kyle Hutcheson. Music will be provided by Stephen Brubaker. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to the First Baptist Church, cards are available at James & Gahr.
