  • While most 11-year-olds spend their free time watching TV and playing with friends, Kori Arnold is working toward her future as a professional photographer.

Kori fell in love with taking pictures after going to a friend’s birthday party where she took photos of a baby — she has been hooked ever since.

“She wants to do it all the time,” said her mother, Kristi Arnold.

“I’ve always loved (photography),” said Kori.

Her parents are very supportive of Kori’s goals; they even bought her a camera — a Canon T3 Kori has named ‘Lensey.’

“We’re kind of amazed,” said Kristi. Early on, after one of her first photo shoots, Kristi said Kori got into the car and said “This is it — this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.”

“I’ll probably have a studio very soon,” said Kori. “My dad’s going to build one for me.”

Kori’s father, George Arnold, works at the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office.

Right now, her favorite backdrops are brick walls and open fields and she gets her inspiration and ideas for photos from Pinterest and her own imagination. She is a self-taught artist who has learned a lot of her skill from reading photography-related articles on the internet.

People are her favorite subject right now.

“I’ve taken a lot of pictures of my friends,” said Kori. “They like it because they get free pictures.”

“She doesn’t like people to be really posed,” said Kristi. “She likes them to be comfortable and have fun.”

Kori charges modest rates for her services. Her talent shines through on her website (which Kori maintains herself) www.simplygracefulphoto.blogspot.com, and her Facebook page: Simply Graceful Photography (Kori’s middle name is Grace). She takes the money she earns and puts it back into the business, buying props, a second camera, and other photography-related items.

If you want to book Kori for a photo shoot, she’s going to have to ask her mom, who drives her around, first.

Kori is still more than four years away from having her drivers license.
