  • Newburg home destroyed in blaze

  • NEWBURG -- A Newburg man is homeless after a Valentine’s Day morning fire.
     
    The firefighters were called to the scene of the fully-involved structure fire on Hollow Street in Newburg shortly after 7 a.m.
     
    A woman who was sleeping in the house said she woke up and the house was filled with smoke.
     
    “I was at work,” said David Beakley who was renting the home with the intention of eventually owning it. “She called me at work and said the house was on fire.”
     
    About 20 firefighters from three different departments, including Doolittle, Newburg and the Rolla Rural Fire Protection District were on-hand to fight the fire.
     
    The house was insured, but the contents of the home were not.
     
    No one was injured during the blaze. Responding fire departments from Doolittle, Newburg and Rolla Rural the began clearing the scene shortly after 10 a.m.
     
    The cause of the blaze is unknown at this point, the Fire Marshall is currently on the scene investigating.
     
    Beakley said he does have a place to stay and the American Red Cross had already been in touch to provide assistance.
