  • Jason Smith reacts to State of the Union address

  • State Rep. Jason Smith released the following statement after President Obama’s State of the Union address:
“This evening, President Obama had an opportunity to present a serious plan to balance the budget and deal with the out-of-control national debt—but sadly, he failed once again.  Instead, we saw the same appeals for more spending, more taxes, and more government intervention.  The truth is, we cannot talk about creating jobs and growing the economy until we have a plan to get our nation’s fiscal house in order.
“The President also missed an opportunity to present a solution to the problem created by his administration’s job-killing rules and regulations, which have stifled creativity and prevented a robust economic recovery. Rural Missourians have been especially hard hit by his EPA’s over-regulation, but instead of restraining the federal bureaucracy, the President made it clear that he plans to bypass the peoples’ representatives and enact cap-and-trade by executive fiat.
“As a State Legislator, I am proud to have passed legislation that requires the government to review its rules so unnecessary, duplicative, and burdensome regulations can be eliminated. That’s the kind of common-sense leadership we need in Washington.”
