Out with the old, in with the new — Dollar Tree opening in Rolla
- Store to go in former Fashion Bug location
A nearly half-million dollar renovation project is under way to transform part of a building where Fashion Bug was located to a new Dollar Tree store in Rolla.
According to John Petersen, director of community development for the City of Rolla, the new store will occupy a space of about 11,000 square feet.
Fashion Bug, which went out of business, recently moved out of the location and Petersen said the store has sat vacant for about a month.
"It was a quick turnaround," he said.
The address of the new store is 901 Strobach Street, but most shoppers will find the store in the same building but next to Hibbett Sports.
Dollar Tree's media relations department had not returned calls by press time regarding an opening date for the store.
Petersen said he estimates the renovation work to be complete "in a matter of weeks."
The estimated construction cost of the renovations is $494,395, according to the building permit filed.
Rolla city officials began having talks with Dollar Tree about locating a store in town last year, Petersen said.
"This fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1 and runs through the end of September should be a very good, strong year for construction," Petersen said.
