Secretary of State Jason Kander announced the Rolla Public Library received a Summer Library Program Grant in the amount of $8,435.
The grant will be used to offer three 10- week summer reading programs. The program theme "Dig into Reading" will target children preschool through fifth grade, "Beneath the Surface" is for grades 6–12 and the adult program theme is "Groundbreaking Reads." The teen and adult programs are new to the library. Weekly activities are planned surrounding the various themes, and all are designed to help prevent summer learning loss. Some story times and family literacy events will be held in the evening to encourage more families to participate.
"We're lucky Missouri has such a rich network of local public libraries throughout the state," Kander said. "Strong local libraries provide Missourians access to new resources and information right in their own communities.
With this federal grant funding, Rolla Public Library will be able to provide Missourians with even better services and programs."
