The University of Missouri Extension of Phelps County will offer a seminar called “Starting Seeds Indoors,” for area gardeners Tuesday, March 12, from 6-7:30 p.m.
The seminar will be held at the Phelps County Extension Center located at the Phelps County Courthouse, 200 N. Main St., Rolla.
Patrick Greenwald, horticulture specialist with the Phelps County Extension, will teach the seminar. Time after the presentation will be reserved for garden-related questions.
The cost for the program is $6 payable in advance at the Phelps County Extension Center. Due to limited seating and to ensure adequate handouts and other program materials, participants are asked to pre-register and pay by March 5.
The class is offered to help beginner and experienced gardeners understand the science behind successfully starting plants indoors by seed.
This seminar will focus on easy to difficult seed propagation including: seed collecting, seed anatomy and dormancy, seed germination requirement techniques, seed sowing and seedling transplanting, and dry seed storage requirements.
Annual, perennial, native wildflowers, native trees and shrub seed propagation will also be covered in this lecture.
Participants will receive three different examples of seeds which have undergone separate germination treatments.
To reserve a seat call the Phelps County Extension Center at 573-458-6260.
