Syble I. Stokes Browning, 88, of Montgomery City, MO, died at 3:25 AM on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.
Syble Browning was born June 17, 1924 in Festus, MO, to Willie Starks and Violet Young Starks. She married her late husband, Russell Browning on October 6, 1973, at the Church of the Nazarene in St. Clair, MO. They lived much of their married lives in the St. James, MO, area. They moved to Montgomery City in approximately 2004. She was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Montgomery City, MO. She also attended church and quilting activities at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City. Mrs. Browning was a true Christian. She loved being with both family and friends. She loved music; both singing and/or listening to musical performances. She was active at the Montgomery County Senior Center and enjoyed playing bingo there every week. She was also active in the local “Red Hatters” organization.
Mrs. Browning is survived by three children: Warren Stokes and wife, Linda, of Sun City, Arizona; Jim Stokes and wife, Debbie, of Montgomery City, MO; and Joyce Drennen and husband, Ed, of St. Clair, MO; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and eighteen great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister: Naomi Nettell of Rogersville, MO; and one brother, Floyd Starks and wife, Ovene, of Stanton, MO; sister-in-law: Patsy Starks and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are many friends, including two special friends: Gertrude Camp and Joyce Haynie.
Mrs. Browning was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell, on October 18, 2004; one daughter, Donna Stokes Adams; two granddaughters: Steffanie Martin and April Hampton; three brothers: Raymond Starks and wife, Fern; Vernon Starks and Marvin Starks; and two sisters: Myertie Allen and Priscilla Hendrix.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Gary Reeves will officiate and interment will be in the Bellflower Cemetery in Bellflower, MO. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Mrs. Browning’s grandchildren will serve as casketbearers.
