  • Infrastructure improvements to Wilson Drive in the St. James Industrial Park were completed in December and will result in eight new jobs and $500,000 in new capital improvements at one local business while setting the stage for additional growth opportunities.
The project was made possible through Delta Regional Authority (DRA) funding in the amount of $82,241 that was awarded in November of 2011 combined a contribution by the City of St. James in the amount of $5,000 in cash and $8,250 of in-kind funding, which included using city employees and equipment to install the new street lights.
“Without the assistance of the DRA and the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) the infrastructure and transportation improvements to our industrial park would not have become reality,” St. James Mayor Dennis Wilson said.
MRPC assisted with the DRA application and administered the project, which was spurred by Project Innovation and Engineering (PINE), LLC’s recent relocation to Wilson Drive. As part of the project agreement, PINE, LLC committed to increasing its staff from two to 10 and investing an additional $500,000 in capital improvements to its property by 2017.
According to Wilson, the city may reap even more benefits from the project in the near future as it has opened up additional industrial park land for development.
“The paving of Wilson Drive has already been a driving force in the possible development of a manufacturing firm that promises to bring 30-50 jobs to the St. James area, if the deal goes through,” Wilson said.
