  • A search is under way for a suspect involved in a Friday afternoon robbery at the Rolla Federal Credit Union, which has been hit twice in less than four months.

According to a press release issued by the Rolla Police Department, the suspect was still at large as of press time Friday evening. No one was injured during the incident.

At about 12:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the bank, located at 1012 Forum Drive. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a light colored dress shirt, and light colored dress style hat.

Witnesses told police that the suspect entered the bank, handed a teller a note and "announced a robbery."

"The suspect then robbed the bank of an undetermined amount of U.S. Currency and then he fled the bank on foot in a westerly direction," the release said.
Lt. Rick Williams of the RPD said no weapon was displayed during the incident.

This is the second robbery with the same MO reported at this particular bank. Williams said the bank's proximity to public areas, including Ber Juan Park, could be why the bank has been robbed more than once, but that's only speculation.

"All of our banks have been hit at one point," he said. "We don't know why they choose those locations."

Ricky R. Whitby, Jr., 25, of Rolla, was arrested for robbery in the first degree in connection with a robbery at the same bank on Oct. 17. Whitby reportedly entered the bank and approached a teller, indicating that he had a weapon. After robbing the bank of an undisclosed amount of money, he fled on foot.

Bank employees provided a description of the suspect to police and Whitby was located a short time later in the 1100 block of Forum Drive by responding officers. Whitby was arrested without incident. No weapons were discovered on the subject, and the stolen money was recovered at the scene.
