  • The City of Rolla recently received the prestigious Flag of Freedom Award that is part of the ‘Show-Me Heroes’ initiative launched by Governor Jay Nixon in January 2010.

  • The City of Rolla recently received the prestigious Flag of Freedom Award that is part of the ‘Show-Me Heroes’ initiative launched by Governor Jay Nixon in January 2010.
     
    The award was given to the City in recognition of its promotion of excellence in Missouri’s workforce by reaching out to and employing Missouri’s Veterans and members of our National Guard and Reserve.
    The award was presented by Wayne Houtman, Veterans’ Representative with the Department of Economic Development – Division of Workforce Development, at the Jan. 7, 2013 Rolla City Council meeting. It was received by Rolla Mayor Bill Jenks, III; City Administrator John Butz; Rolla Police Chief Mark Kearse; Steve Hargis, Director of Public Works; Brady Wilson, Director of Environmental Services and Fire and Rescue Chief Robert Williams. The department directors have each hired at least one Veteran in the last two to three years.
    The Flag of Freedom Award includes a patch of the U.S. flag that was once worn on the uniform of Spc. Jeffrey A. Norris with the 2nd Platoon, 1139th Military Police Company in Al-Asad, Iraq. The award was also signed by Governor Jay Nixon and Lt. Col Alan Rohlfing, Director, Show-Me Heroes.
