Bethany Schindler, nutrition and health education specialist with University of Missouri Extension in Phelps County, was recently awarded the Specialist of the Year Award for the Family Nutrition Education Program.
Schindler teamed up with Jessica Gargus to offer nutritional information at the farmers market in St. James this past year. This promotion of healthy foods reached new audiences for Extension and the vendors praised their efforts.
Cooking Matters programs; Food Preservation classes; Stay Strong, Stay Healthy; Chronic Disease Self-Management; A Matter of Balance; and Eat Well, Be Well with Diabetes are programs that Schindler offered in several counties in 2012.
In addition, Schindler is involved with the Healthy Lifestyle Coalitions in Phelps and Crawford counties. She was also recognized for the outstanding nutrition training she offered throughout the year to the Extension nutrition program associates.
Schindler received her award in December from Candy Gabel, state coordinator of the Family Nutrition Education Program.
