  • The Meramec Hills Chapter of the Missouri Master Naturalists based in Rolla is offering its sixth certification course Tuesday evenings beginning with an orientation Feb. 5.
Classes will run from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Department of Natural Resources Land Survey Building in Rolla. Two Saturday field sessions at a conservation area and a private owner’s land are also included.
The orientation Feb. 5 is an overview at which people can determine whether this program is a fit for them. If they decide to continue, course lectures begin Feb. 26.
Chapter membership begins with a 12-week certification course taught by university professors, field scientists and other expert naturalists. Certification is then maintained with eight hours of advanced training and 40 hours of natural resource-related volunteer service each year.
Participants must be 18 years or older to enroll. The class is limited to 25 participants and is first come, first served. The fee is $100.
Enrollment forms can be picked up at the Department of Conservation office in Rolla, at the University of Missouri Extension in Rolla or online at www.meramechills.org.
The Meramec Hills Chapter of the Missouri Master Naturalists has members involved in volunteer projects throughout Phelps, Dent and Pulaski counties. Members meet monthly in Rolla for a training program and business meeting.
The Missouri Master Naturalist program is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation and University of Missouri Extension.
