Last Friday’s school murders of twenty beautiful little children and six adults has begot many reactions and 24/7 news coverage. The murderer’s name was Adam Lanza, a 20-year-old recluse living in his room at his mother’s house. It’s important to name Lanza lest we blame the tools he used to accomplish his vile massacre. No, the guns he had did not breach the school’s new security system, walk thru the hallways and stalk babies and adults firing at will. Adam Lanza made all that happen until, upon hearing the forces of good arrive, Lanza blasted himself straight to Hell.
Was it unfortunate that mom decided to bond with her lunatic son by training him to shoot? Most definitely. Should access to firearms to the Adam Lanzas of the world be forbidden? You betcha. How to get from here to there is a lot more complicated than the solution that should be obvious to all.
Let me repeat: Lanza put a gun to his own head soon after finding out that his bullying, murdering rage was about to be ended. What if he knew that security at the school was such that it exceeded his weapons and skills?
But I digress. I’ll deal with that later after a few weeklong observations.
What was incredible to me is how many immediate different takes there were on this bloodbath just after it happened. The reactions from the MSM and social media were:
• Some cried uncontrollably.
• Some were angry (me)
• Some suffered in depressed silence trying to grasp what this evil idiot did (me, after my initial and enduring anger).
• Some blamed the mother.
• Some blamed violent video games.
• Some blamed the violence on TV and movies.
• Some blamed the Internet.
• Some believed there’s a breakdownin our mental health system. (Me)
• Some thought the immediate need lies in armed security at our schools, citing the Israelis. (Me)
The immediate knee-jerk reaction of President Obama, Socialist in Charge (SIC) was incredulous and pandering. We gotta do something! We aren’t gonna stand for this anymore!
Yet Obama let a ten-year ban on assault weapons stand without lifting a finger—‘til now. Norah O’Donnell of CBS News just raked Chicago Mayor Rahm “Disaster Master” Emanuel, and Obama’s ex-Chief-of-Staff over the coals as he was trying to pontificate over what the Obama Administration had done about gun safety over the years. O’Donnell, hardly a right-winger, pointed out the Obama Administration had done next to nothing about monitoring guns and were grandstanding in an attempt to take political advantage over the deaths of 20 babies and six adults. Yesterday, the SIC even used the tragedy to goad Republicans to bend over and meet his terms on the fiscal cliff serial opera.
For now, can we all just focus on what the most immediate need is? Can we agree that we need to protect the lives of our children first?
As we place protection for our kids now, we can discuss all the other solutions, much of it needing lengthy and well-debated legislation.
Want a role for government, Libs? Here it is!
Deploy troops where police protection isn’t forthcoming. Take these troops from those stationed in the USA and those returning from battle. Have them stand as armed guards for our now-vulnerable children at schools.
That’s the immediate concern.
Let’s not leave ourselves open to copycat attacks. As I said, the media has been reporting on this 24/7 since last Friday. Every kook in the world has seen the kind of instant fame Lanza acquired from his last desperate attempt at something he could remembered for.
Just think--we could hire a returning veteran and pay him a wage to further risk his life while protecting our precious ones. I’d call that a win-win without shredding our Constitution which is why Progressives will hate it.
It seems a lot better than paying an Obama-supporting welfare cheat who gets paid to work one day year—election day.
Or am I wrong?
