James Kellogg Martin, of Rolla, formerly of Dixon, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the age of 78.
He was born on July 21, 1934 in Arcade, NY to the late William Martin and Lila (Brock) Martin. On October 20, 1956, he married Gertrud Dusel who survives of the home.
Jim retired from the U.S. Army in 1972 as a Sgt. First Class. He also worked as a food service contractor for 18 years. Jim loved people. He also served as a volunteer at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, David Martin and one sister, Ruth Black.
Jim will be sadly missed by his surviving family which includes: his wife, Gertrud Martin of Rolla; three sons, Alan Martin of Holt Summit, MO, James Martin, Jr. and wife Sherry of Pace, FL and Steven Martin of Dixon, MO; two daughters, Susan Schoen and husband John of Rolla and Deborah Wink and husband Tom of Rolla; one brother, Gale Martin and wife Gloria of St. James, MO; one sister, Carol Teague and husband Doyle of Salem, MO; one sister-in-law, Candy Martin of Dixon, MO; four grandchildren, Jenny Shelton, Jillian French, Jessica Martin and Jade Martin; and two great grandchildren, Alec Shelton and Nicholas Shelton.
A funeral service for Jim Martin will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Null and Son Funeral Home of Rolla. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Ft. Leonard Wood Veteran’s Cemetery at 1 p.m. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 27 at the funeral home.
