Melvin William Garner of Rolla, Missouri was born November 1, 1933 in Hull, Illinois to the late Clarence and Daisy (Chanler) Garner, and entered into rest December 11, 2012 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 79.

Melvin was united in marriage to Josephine (Day) Garner on January 4, 1953 in Hannibal, Missouri and to this union four children were born.

He was a member of the Rolla Lions Club for seventeen years and the Masonic Lodge for fifty years.  He was also a Shriner and a SOCMO Clown.

Melvin was employed by URGAS for thirty five years in both Moberly and Rolla, Missouri.  After retiring from URGAS he became an owner and operator of Garner Refrigeration and Heating in Rolla for thirty years.

Survivors include his wife Josephine Garner of Rolla; sons David Garner of Rolla and Robert Garner & wife Annette of Rolla; daughter Deanna Brown & significant other Charles Worley of Rolla; grandchildren Ashley Anderson & husband Justin, JoHannah Garner, James Garner & wife Nancy, Trevor Garner, Jason Garner and Lakota Worley; great grandchildren Mike Garner, Jessie Garner, Bradyn Garner, Caden Anderson, Aliyah Anderson and Zane Garner; along with many nieces, nephews extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Michael Garner, brother Walter Garner and sisters Roberta, Velta and Berniece in addition to his parents.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 15 from 12 to 2 PM at James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.  A Masonic Service for Melvin William Garner will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 2 PM and will be followed by a memorial service at James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla, Missouri with Pastor Dan Phillips officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Rolla Lions Club or South Central Missouri Shrine Club for the Children’s Hospital.  Cards are available at all James & Gahr locations.
