After making an upswing, sales tax collections in Phelps County came back down recently compared to the same time last year.
Phelps County Treasurer Carol Green presented updated sales tax figures to the Phelps County Commissioners Tuesday morning during their meeting.
Sales tax deposited to the county in December represents sales from a month prior, or earlier in some cases, depending on the business.
Phelps County’s sales tax deposit this month was down by 5.79 percent compared to December 2011.
Sales tax deposited to the county was up by 6.22 percent in November 2012 compared to that same month in 2011 and was down by 3.07 percent in October 2012 compared to October 2011.
This year so far, county sales tax is up compared to last year by 1.22 percent. County sales tax collections total $2,496,599.67 at this time, the highest amount since 2007.
Sales tax collections in Phelps County fell in 2007, 2008 and 2009, but they have risen in the past two years, with 2012 also appearing to be in the positive.
The county’s sales tax deposit in January was up 18.75 percent compared to the deposit received in January 2011 but the deposit in February was down by 28.77 percent compared to February of last year.
In March of this year, the county’s deposit was up by 49.9 percent compared to March 2011. This was the highest positive change in a month this year compared to the same month in 2011.
The deposit for April 2012 was up 2.52 percent compared to April 2011 and the deposit for May was down by 32.89 percent when compared to the May 2011 deposit.
The June 2012 deposit was up by 22.31 percent compared to June of last year and the deposit received in July this year was down by 10.54 percent.
The deposit for August of this year was down 2.4 percent compared to August 2011 and September’s deposit was up 4.71 percent compared to that same month in 2011.
