A Webb City man suffered serious injuries after the vehicle he was driving went airborne and overturned many times on Interstate 44 near St. James Sunday night.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Christopher D. Cobb, 30, was seriously injured in the crash which was reported around 7:40 p.m. at mile marker 194.6 on I-44 in Phelps County.
Cobb was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cruz east when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road, struck a median cable, then became airborne. The vehicle then overturned several times before coming to a rest on its right side.
Cobb was first taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center by Phelps County ambulance and was later transferred to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
The MSHP stated that Cobb was not wearing a seat belt. There was extensive damage to the vehicle.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the left eastbound and westbound lane of the interstate were closed for about half of an hour.
