The Rolla Choral Arts Society (RCAS) will present its fifth annual Christmas concert, titled “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9. Both performances will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Rolla.
A nursery for small children will be provided. Tickets for the concerts are available in advance at Kent Jewelry and online at www.rollachoirs.org. Tickets will also be available at the door. All tickets are $5.
RCAS ensembles performing in the program include the Rolla Community Choir, Rolla Men of Song, Rolla Community Children’s Choir, RCCC Young Singers and the RCAS Junior and Senior High Jazz Choirs.
Featured works will include “Magnficat” by English composer Gerald Finzi, scored for mixed chorus and organ, and Bob Chilcott’s entertaining arrangement of “12 Days of Christmas,” which will include all of the singers performing in the concert. In between these two larger works will be a variety of music for the Christmas season performed by the ensembles of the RCAS.
The artistic director for the RCAS is Jeff Sandquist. Jane Tummons directs the RCCC Young Singers and Kathy Mazzeo directs the Junior and Senior High Jazz Choirs. Accompanists include Kathy Mazzeo and Annie Gao.
RCAS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and is supported by contributions from participating singers, donations from individuals and businesses, ticket sales from concerts and a grant from the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
RCAS board members include Cindy Beger, Charles Boone, Treasurer Janice Hartinger, Kathryn Northcut, Steve Skelton and Bruce Wade.
In addition to the annual Christmas concerts, RCAS ensembles’ major performances include a benefit dinner, which will be Feb. 23, next year at Matt’s Steakhouse, and a spring performance, which is scheduled for April 28, 2013. RCAS ensembles also perform for a variety of community events throughout the year.
