Rita Irene Brenden was swept up into the arms of the Lord at 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 surrounded by her family and friends.

Rita was born on March 12, 1924 in Utica, SD at the Harvey homestead to Ernest James Harvey and Addie (Miller) Harvey.  She was a school teacher at Wanblee, SD before meeting her future husband, Donald A. Brenden.

On August 18, 1946, she and Don were married in Kadoka, SD. To this union four children were born; Anita, Linda, Paul and Paula. After they were married, Don and Rita went to Rapid City where Donald finished his electrical engineering degree at the Rapid City, SD School of Mines.

Rita was a dedicated member of the Ridgeview Christian Church for over 50 years.  She was a church secretary for numerous years.  She was an avid Cardinal fan and a bird lover.

Rita was a dedicated, devoted and loving mother. As an example, she donated a kidney to her daughter, Linda Brenden.  

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Brenden in 1988, three brothers, Paul Harvey, Lynn Harvey and Kenneth Harvey; and one sister, Dorothy Littrell.

Rita will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes:  three daughters, Anita Scholl and husband Gilbert of Dayton, OH, Linda Brenden of Rolla, and Paula Sons and husband Jeff of Kell, IL;  one son, Paul Brenden and wife Teresa of Rolla; one brother, Roy Harvey of Ogden, UT; one sister, Ruth Kukal of Jerome, ID; five grandchildren, Amy Hawkins, Andrew Scholl, Aaron Scholl, Hannah Brenden and Crystal Sons; five great grandchildren, Zachary Scholl, Anna Scholl, Kate Scholl, Gracie Hawkins and Kolten Hawkins; and special friends, Sally Henson and Carla Cole.

A funeral service for Rita Brenden will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla.  Pastor David Neiss will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 5 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
