  • Phelps County has been chosen to receive $15,905 in federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.
The selection was made by the national board that is chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from The Salvation Army; American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.; and, United Way of America.
A local board made up of a representative of the above agencies will determine how the funds awarded to Phelps County will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local agencies in the area.
The local board also is responsible for any additional funds available under this phase of the program.
Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary non-profits or units of the government, be eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and if they are a private voluntary organization they must have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.
Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for these funds must contact Carol Green, Phelps County treasurer, at 200 N. Main, Suite 125, Phelps County Courthouse, Rolla, or by calling 573-458-6130 for an application.
The deadline for applications to be received is Dec. 14, at 4 p.m.
