Rolla police are searching for a suspect who struck and killed two dogs, injured their owner and then drove away from the scene last week in town.
The hit-and-run accident is still under investigation, according to Rolla Police Chief Mark Kearse.
The accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 in the 200 block of East First Street.
According to police, the man was walking in the area, facing traffic, when an unknown driver in an unknown vehicle crossed the center line and struck the man from behind. The two dogs — wirehaired terriers — that were being walked, died.
The man walking the dogs was taken to the hospital for swelling hands and bruising, but had no broken bones, police said.
"We're still working on the case at this point in time," Kearse said, noting that pieces of the vehicle were left behind. "We're trying to contact some leads."
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Rolla Police Department at 573-308-1213 and talk to Officer Lauth.
