As a Senior Companion, Dill works at Rolla Manor Care Center as well as in homes in the Rolla area, listening to them talk about their lives, providing assistance for errands, appointments.
Dill grew up in Detroit, Mich., with seven brothers and two sisters; she worked as a medical aide, enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Besides serving as a Senior Companion Dill enjoys reading and crocheting, making butterfly magnets, towel sets, and pot holders to give as gifts or to sell.
Dill also enjoys spending time with family, especially her six grandchildren. Dill is very familiar with how the program assists families; her own mother-in-law was a client of the Senior Companion Program at one time.
As the Senior Companion of the month of October, Dill received a floral arrangement donated by Blossom Basket Florist, and the recognition of her fellow Senior Companions. Benchmark provided the in-service program as well as a luncheon for all the Senior Companions.
There are more than 70 senior citizen volunteers serving as Senior Companions all over Phelps County in private homes, residential care facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. Sponsored by the Phelps County Commission, the Corporation for National and Community Service, as well as several local groups and individuals, Senior Companions’ greatest work is to help their peers maintain the independence they have worked for all their lives. If you know a Phelps County resident who might benefit from the services of a Senior Companion or someone 55 or older who would like to become a Senior Companion please contact 573-458-6180 for further information.
