Gertrude Marie “Trudy” Hammack, of Rolla, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the age of 92.

She was born in Sedalia, MO on April 13, 1920 to the late Walter Jerome Castle and Johanna Marie (Imhauser) Castle.

She graduated from the Otterville, MO High School in 1938, then attended Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, MO earning a teaching certification and taught school for several years. She later enrolled in the nursing program at St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Boonville, MO. Upon graduation she embarked on a 38 year career for the state as a RN for Missouri Crippled Children. At the time of her retirement there were 738 disabled children under her care.

Trudy met and married Calvin Gene Hammack in July of 1960 and shared life together until his death in 1998. Trudy was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rolla.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Edward Castle and Lawrence Castle both of Otterville, MO, and one great granddaughter, Emma Rosella Casey.

She will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes one son, Rodney Lee Hammack and wife Darsi, of Salem, MO; one daughter, Teresa Marie Hammack, of the home; grandson, Eric Lee Casey and granddaughter-in-law, Alisha Casey, both of Salem, MO; granddaughter, Nicole Lizotte, of Camdenton, MO; great granddaughters, Genna Casey and Makayla Ford, and great grandson Jerrison Lizotte.

A Rosary service for Trudy Hammack will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 14th at the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla followed by a visitation for family and friends until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the IOOF Cemetery in Otterville, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
