  • Area volunteers are planning to give back to the community during Fort Leonard Wood’s annual Make A Difference Day event scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 27, at Colyer Park.
Volunteers of all ages and capabilities are signed up to support activities, such as a motorcycle ride and a display recognizing the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, a stream cleanup and a scouting project at Fort Leonard Wood’s Happy Hollow recreation area.
In combination with Make A Difference Day, a Domestic Violence Awareness Month 5K Fun Run/Walk is planned for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 27 at Colyer Park. The event is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to wear purple in support of ending domestic violence and promoting healthy relationships.
Last year, more than 577 people volunteered about 2,400 hours on Make A Difference Day projects throughout various locations on Fort Leonard Wood to include Happy Hollow, Memorial Grove, the horse stables, the John B. Mahaffey Museum and the USO to name a few. Volunteers also assembled and distributed more than 500 Thanksgiving baskets to military families.
