James Leonard Turner, of Rolla, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the age of 89.

He was born on March 31, 1923 in El Dorado, AR to Jesse G. and Ruby (Slayter) Turner. He first married Hazel Sharp. This marriage dissolved and in 1982, he married Lola Grisham and moved to Rolla.

James served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked at American Oil Co. at the El Dorado Refinery for 30 years. He was the first traveling supervisor working anywhere a refinery needed repair. He was also Industrial Fire Chief for the company. He worked at the St. James Auto Salvage in St. James hauling parts for 19 years.

He was a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Inc. and a member of the Regular Police Commission of El Dorado, AR in 1965. He was appointed Deputy Sheriff of Union Co, AR in 1966 and was with the Arkansas Civil Defense and Disaster Relief in 1965. He was a charter member of Marrable Hill Chapel, El Dorado AR and is presently a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Rolla.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jesse L. Turner.

James will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes: his wife of 30 years, Lola Turner; one daughter, Elizabeth; a stepson, David Rosenburg and wife Karen; and step grandchildren, Brandon and Kaylie Rosenburg; cousins and many friends.

A funeral service for James L. Turner will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Interment will follow in the Camp Creek Cemetery in Phelps County. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
