  • Two people from Belle were arrested Sunday shortly after midnight on drug-related charges at a home where officers also found children living there.
According to a press release from Belle Police Chief Michael Dixon, Belle police officers arrested Justin D. Miller, 31, and Serena A. Pierce, 32, both of Belle, for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance, which are both felonies. Miller and Pierce also were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both subjects were transported to the Maries County Jail, where they were booked and held on a $62,500 bond.
Belle police officers and the Lake Area Narcotics Enforcement Group executed a search warrant in the 500 block of South Alvarado Avenue in Belle around 12:15 a.m.
According to Dixon, while the search warrant was being executed, officers found three juvenile children in the home.
“It’s very sad to see children subjected to these types of home lives. We, as law enforcement officials, must do everything we can to protect children from dangerous drugs and ensure a safe, drug-free environment for them to succeed,” Dixon said.
The children were released to a family member.
Officers also located a large amount of controlled substances that appeared to be packaged for individual sale and other drug paraphernalia inside the home that led officers to believe that the suspects were packaging and selling narcotics out of the residence.
The Belle Police Department maintains a zero-tolerance drug policy.
People who suspect illegal activity should contact the Belle Police Department at 573-859-3535 or the Lake Area Narcotics Enforcement Group drug toll free tipline at 1-800-351-8477 (TIPS).
