  • Jill W. (Dahl) Siltala, age 59, of Munising, and former Dixon resident, passed from this life on the evening of Saturday, October 13, 2012.
Born February 17, 1953 in Gaylord, Michigan, a daughter of Gunnard and Irene (McDonald) Dahl, Jill was raised in Marquette and Grand Haven, both duty assignments of her father, a Michigan State Police trooper. She graduated from high school in Grand Haven in 1971 and soon after entered the dental hygiene program offered through the Grand Rapids Community College. Jill received her license in 1975 and was employed as a dental hygienist in the Grand Haven area.
On June 11, 1981, Jill married Jonathan E. Siltala in Columbia, South Carolina, where he was serving with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Their early years together involved several relocations and, in 1990, Jill returned to her work as a dental hygienist while Jon served at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In 2005, the couple moved to Munising to reside on property they had purchased years earlier.
Throughout the years, Jill was employed with several dentists, but currently was a dental hygienist with the practice of Marquette periodontist, Dr. G. Peter Kelly, DDS. Jill enjoyed the outdoors and all that nature had to offer.
An avid photographer, she enjoyed capturing people, events, portraits, and landscapes on film. Over the years, she amassed a huge collection of photographs which will provide many memories for her family and friends in the years to come. Her other leisure activities included knitting, sewing, gardening, fishing, and walking in the woods. Jill was a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association and the Upper Peninsula Dental Hygiene Association.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Jon; her sons, Joel (Erica) Siltala of Sarasota, Fl and Jeremy (Lara) Siltala of Austin, TX; her father, Gunnard Dahl of Gladstone; a sister, Karen (Rix) Robinson of Sebastian, FL; several nieces and nephews. Jill was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Dahl; and two infant sisters.
The family will receive friends at a memorial gathering in celebration of Jill’s life on Wednesday, October 17, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home, Marquette, Michigan.
