A sealed section of PVC pipe discovered near the Havener Center on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus has been determined to be no threat to the campus.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Missouri S&T officials sent out a notification using its emergency alert system that a “suspicious item” had been discovered near the Havener Center and that campus police were evacuating the building and immediate area. When the item was found, it was initially reported to the campus police.
The notification told students, faculty and staff to avoid the area. The campus police chief estimated about 50 people were evacuated. A university spokesperson said the area was not very busy at the time of the incident.
Police located the owner of the item and determined that it was not a threat to campus.
Police issued an all-clear and reopened the area at approximately 10 a.m.
