  • William Isaiah “Bill” Neely Sr., of Rolla, passed away at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in St. James on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the age of 91.
    He was born in Stotts City, MO on February 6, 1921 to the late William G. and Anna (Young) Neely.
    On May 13, 1940 he married Dorothy Light who preceded him in death on October 26, 2010.
    Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in both WWII and the Korean War. He continued his service in the Army Reserve until 1961 earning the rank of Captain.
    Mr. Neely worked as maintenance supervisor for the American Lead and Zinc Co. in Dumas, TX for 30 years and then as a maintenance supervisor for the Rolla Public Schools for 13 years. After retirement he worked part time as a salesman for Herman Lumber Co. and Meeks Lumber Co.
    He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Doolittle and former member of the Rolla First Presbyterian Church for 33 years where he served as an elder. He was also a member of the Doolittle Lions Club where he served as secretary for 23 years.
    Bill loved his Lord, country, family, and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Black, and one brother, Raymond Neely.
    He is survived by his son, William I. Neely Jr., of Rolla; nieces, nephews, other extended family members and dear friends.
    A funeral service for Bill Neely Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Null & Son Funeral Home.
    Interment with military honors will follow in Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.
    Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden Fund, or the Salvation Army.
