Mr. Martin was born December 4, 1952 in Rolla, Missouri to the late Luther Washburn and Jeanne Frances (Reynolds) Martin, and died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Lufkin, Texas. He was pronounced dead at the local hospital.
Kurt attended the Rolla Public Schools, graduating in 1971. He attended Florida College in Temple Terrace Florida, where he met Brenda Jean Murray. They married June 8, 1973 in Lufkin, Texas, Brenda's home town. They divorced August 31st, 2000.
Kurt's career focused on business. He worked for Lufkin Industries, in Lufkin, Texas, and was a store manager for Lowe's Homecenters Inc. in Texas and Oregon.
From an early age Kurt began preaching and leading worship services, as did his father, Luther Martin. No matter what earthly responsibilities he held, his first love was serving the Lord and spreading the gospel. He spent his last years residing in Palestine, Texas where he was the minister for the Eastside Church of Christ.
He was a treasured father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He had a quick wit, a keen sense of humor and was blessed with the ability to lighten the mood and bring a smile at the most opportune times.
When his three children were in school he served on the Hudson ISD school board and was an active parent and coach for his children's many activities. In the last seven years as a grandfather he continued that same support with his five grandsons. Kurt was a man of many talents. His most recent hobby included being the sound man for the Cowboy B music show in Lufkin, Texas. He considered it his "hunting, fishing, and golf" replacement. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
