  • Wishes can come true, and one local business is committed to seeing 7-year-old Andrew Frayer's wish become reality.
The Mitchell Clinic in St. James has announced The Wish 5K, 10K Run on Oct. 13 as a fund-raising event to raise $5,000 to send Andrew to Disneyworld. Andrew, who is away from his home in Rolla to undergo cancer treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, has left a lasting impression on the Mitchell family.
"We've donated money to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for the last couple of years," said Susan Mitchell. "We decided instead of donating money this year we wanted to fully fund a wish."
The Mitchell family, which includes Susan and chiropractor Dr. Gerry Mitchell, have followed the Prayers for Andrew Facebook page, which has more than 500 likes and gives updates on Andrew's progress.
The Mitchell Clinic is currently seeking sponsors and participants for the event.
"Dr. Mitchell and I both had family members that passed away from cancer," Susan said. "We just want to do anything that we can to fund a wish for a kid. It's on our hearts, and if we can help Andrew out and give him his wish it would be amazing.
"I know $5,000 is a lot to ask. And if this doesnt work we will do something else."
According to the Prayers for Andrew page, the mission is to rally prayers for the youngster and encourage people everywhere to "keep Andrew in their prayers and believe with us that God will bring Andrew through this, that he can and will win this battle.Faith is about believing in what you ask for, even if you cannot yet see it as the bible tells us. Taking the stand of faith. Our mission is to rally people of prayer willing to stand in the gap for Andrew on the solid rock of faith. God bless on and all."
The Wish 5K, 10K will begin at 9 a.m. at the Mitchell Clinic office.
