  • A 34-year-old Rolla man is dead following an accident that occurred early Thursday morning near Eureka.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Joshua Wayne Sanders, 34, of Rolla, was involved in a three-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 44 west of the Six Flags exit.
The accident occurred at 5 a.m. when a 2007 Saturn Ion driven by Matthew P. Snyders, 44, of St. Louis, struck a center barrier and came to a rest on the highway. A GMC C7500 box truck driven by an unknown driver avoided the Saturn and stopped on the right shoulder of the highway. The 2008 Sterling Conventional truck driven by Sanders struck the rear of the Saturn causing the truck to overturn.
Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 5:23 a.m. by the Eureka Fire Department. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Snyders was taken to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur by the Eureka Fire Department with moderate injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.
Both the Sterling truck and the Saturn were totaled. The box truck was driven from the scene with minor damage.
A visitation for Sanders will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, from 2-6 p.m. at Greentree Christian Church in Rolla followed by a service Monday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. at the church.
Sanders, formerly of Springfield, is survived by his wife, Marissa Ellen Sanders, of Rolla; his sons, Logan and Jordan Sanders; his parents, Dennis Wayne Sanders and Debra Diane Sanders; one brother, Lucas Dale Sanders, of Republic; one sister, Stephanie Ann Bishop and husband Michael, of Clever; in-laws, grandparents, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
Memorials are suggested to a scholarship fund for his sons. Arrangements are being handled by James and Gahr Mortuary, of Rolla.
